This is a Springfield Armory Model 1873 Trapdoor in .45-70. The antique military weapon bears an 1883 cartouche on its left wrist. The high-arched breechblock bears the stamping “US MODEL 1873” at the hinge. Stamping is clear. Lockplate markings show the spread-winged eagle with the “U.S. SPRINGFIELD / 1873” forward of the hammer.

Rifle has been altered to a sporting rifle. This a very nice alteration of an Indian Wars model 1873. The new 32" octagonal barrel has an excellent bore and all its blue finish. The new stock is fine with all parts fitting nicely. The trigger guard and butt plate are custom made. The receiver and lock have a pleasing patina.
